Position Overview:
Are you passionate about building relationships? Do you have a knack for creating strong partnerships and inspiring communications campaigns? If so, this position could be right for you. As our Member Recruitment, Marketing and Communications Director, you will help us grow our network of over 250+ private, public and community foundations; family offices; individual donors; and their values-aligned investment advisors. You’ll create campaigns that accelerate our mission, and you’ll ensure that we exceed our fundraising and recruitment goals.

This position requires a background in fundraising, new business sales, and the financial industry and/or philanthropy. In this role you’ll need to be the sort of person that easily puts others at ease, engenders trust, and who has exceptionally strong and clear written and verbal communication. If you are a skillful planner and communicator and enjoy a fast-paced, but collaborative work environment this is the role for you!
Location: New York City – must be in the NYC office at least 2-3 days per week. We anticipate up to 10% travel in this role.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Schedule: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM with shorter summer hours. May require some evening or weekend work.
Salary: $95,000 - $105,000 plus generous benefits including healthcare and retirement
Responsibilities:
New Member Recruitment (30%)
- Manage and respond to membership inquiries
- Drive forward targeted membership recruitment efforts, working in partnership with program leads, the management team, and CEO
- Identify new opportunities for membership growth
- Maintain our recruitment database and pipeline, providing regular reports on leads, recruitment success, and the team’s performance against goals
- Establish weekly and monthly goals for calls and outreach
- Understand and synthesize new member interests and areas of expertise to inform Confluence’s programming and how members can best support our mission
- Work closely with the program team to integrate the recruitment plan into existing programming and member retention efforts
Revenue Generation (30% time)
Sponsorship: Design and implement an annual event sponsorship plan that delivers value to our members and supports our mission.
- Develop and implement sponsorship program guidelines
- Create sponsor prospect lists and generate new leads
- Customize proposals and presentations to engage renewed and new sponsors
- Work collaboratively with our internal team to ensure cohesion between sponsorship programs our communications and fundraising strategies
Grants & Reporting: Work closely with the management team and program teams to support fundraising plans, requests, and reporting of outcomes.
Communications (40% time)
Content Creation & Marketing: Generate attention-grabbing campaigns and content for print and online materials to promote Confluence’s brand and mission. This entails:
- Developing communications strategies to support our regular member programming, member recruitment, and fundraising goals
- Creation and delivery of a Social Media Strategy, to amplify and manage Confluence’s social media presence: uplifting member voices and devising influential messaging. You’ll generate social media content leading up to and during conferences and convenings.
- Support the copy editing of publication-ready thought leadership pieces, including reports, factsheets; press releases; website content; session descriptions; event promos and mailings
Qualifications
- Five or more years in sales, that involved prospecting and in-person recruitment
- Proven ability to develop and implement new creative methods for client recruitment
- Energetic, positive, professional, and self-motivated personality with effective oral and written communication skills essential
- Must excel at relationship development and be comfortable making sponsorship and recruitment asks
- Experience in impact investing, finance, or philanthropy, required
- Proven skills in creating effective communications campaigns
- Degree in business communications, marketing, or relevant field, with a graduate-level degree or years of applicable experience, preferred
- Thrives in a collaborative, small team environment
- Performs well under pressure, with patience and a sense of humor
- Attention to detail, highly organized, efficient, with a self-directed work style
