The Communications Director works collaboratively across the organization to envision how we amplify our members’ voices and thought leadership to transform investment practices. The Communications Director uses a variety of media, including traditional written forms for blogs and long-form articles, social media, and content creation.
The Director will also be called upon to develop snappy event marketing communications and to oversee our websites. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Programs, working strategically with the CEO and CXO on specific projects. The Communications Director sources and manages outside design and production consultants.

Primary Skills
Skills in Mailchimp, Squarespace, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Buffer, or similar programs are required for online content production and social media promotion. Strong written communication skills and an eye for design are fundamental.
Compensation
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated mid-career professional ready to assume a leadership role in the development of a highly respected organization. We value applicants with a track record for commitment, longevity, and accomplishment in previous roles. Confluence provides an attractive non-profit compensation package, including a competitive base salary as well as health/dental, 401(k), flex plan, and generous vacation benefits. The starting salary will range from $115k - $130K based on experience and references, with opportunity for salary promotion based on revenue growth.
Location
Must be available weekdays with office hours from 9:00 am ET to 5:30 pm ET. Note that there will be longer hours in the months preceding the annual conferences (February & May) and shorter summer hours. This position is required to be in the office 3-4 days/week in Midtown Manhattan to facilitate team collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Communications and Marketing (50%): Lead the creation, development, and dissemination of print, event, and web materials designed to promote Confluence’s brand, mission, and events.
Membership Engagement and Advancement (30%): Strategically amplify member voices centering innovation, and attract positive attention to the impact industry, creating a significant membership benefit. Work with the program team to research, write or produce program updates and impact stories for publications, website, videos, blogs, etc. Coordinate external communications among staff and consultants. Copywrite and edit as needed. Draft original summary material from webinars and events.
Social Media (15%): Implement a social media strategy (including Blue Sky, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram) for Confluence programs and events. Manage social media presence by cultivating content from members and staff. Stay abreast of sector shifts and provide recommendations to leadership.
Organizational Support: Cyber Security, Presentations, and Copyediting (5%): Work with leadership to make the best decisions about communications and privacy concerns; support the reporting process as requested with copyediting and creative design. Develop presentations for reporting and support the team with reviews for external presentations.
Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in marketing and communications is preferred.
- Experience with communicating with professional/business audiences is required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Mailchimp, Squarespace, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Buffer, or similar programs required.
- Highly organized, efficient, and self-directed work style
- Performs well with multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong interest in environmental and social investing, and the path to a new economy
- Ability to perform under pressure, with patience and a sense of humor.
